Madison, WI – July 15, 2014. Off days are few and far between in the Northwoods League, but the Madison Mallards (8-5, 26-20) had one yesterday, and the rested club looks to silence the Green Bay Bullfrogs (6-6, 23-24) tonight in Green Bay at 7:05 pm.

Mallards starter Tyler Buffett (Oklahoma State) is scheduled to square off against Bullfrogs righty Nathan Disch (Jacksonville). Buffett is 1-1 on the year in four starts and holds a 4.15 ERA in 17.1 innings of work.

The righty out of Albuquerque, New Mexico has struck out 16 batters this season, and in his last start went 4.1 innings, giving up two runs on eight hits while striking out four in a 6-2 loss against the Wisconsin Rapids Rafters.

Disch, a 6’1”, 185-pound native of Appleton is 2-0 on the year in four appearances. He holds a 0.93 ERA in 9.1 innings pitched, and in his last start he tossed six innings, giving up one run on three hits while striking out four in a 9-3 win over the Kalamazoo Growlers.

On Monday, the Mallards finished a split of their six game home and home series with the Wisconsin Rapids Rafters (5-6, 17-29), winning by a score of 4-3 at the “Duck Pond.”

The Mallards scored three runs in the second inning, but the Rafters responded with three of their own in the fourth inning.

The Mallards then went ahead 4-3 in the seventh on second baseman Robbie Tenerowicz’s (California) sacrifice fly to drive in Adam Walton (Illinois), who had reached on a single. Walton finished 2-for-3 with two runs and one RBI.

The win went to Mallards reliever Ben Neumann (Northern Illinois). The lefty tossed two innings in relief, giving up one hit and one walk while striking out three.

Closer Tim Black (Central Michigan) retired three of the four batters he faced in the ninth to get his Northwoods League leading 13th save of the year. With that performance, Black is now the Mallards single season record holder in saves.

The Mallards play one more against the Bullfrogs tomorrow at 7:05 pm before returning on Thursday to begin a back-to-back doubleheader at the “Duck Pond” against the Willmar Stingers.

First pitch on Thursday is slated for 4:30 pm. Thursday features Whiplash the Dog Riding Cowboy Monkey presented by The Payroll Company. It is also Spectrum Brands Home & Garden Night with a Spectrum Brands Giveaway before the game.
