Battle Creek, MI – August 8, 2014. After taking down the Battle Creek Bombers (16-19, 32-38) by a score of 13-4 last night, the Madison Mallards (19-18, 37-33) fell to the Bombers tonight 11-5 to wrap up their two game series in Battle Creek.

The Mallards scored three runs in each of the first three innings, but the Bombers responded with five of their own in the fifth and one in the sixth.

Left fielder Alex Bacon (North Florida) then hit a two run shot in the eighth to bring the deficit to three runs, but the Bombers tacked on three more in the bottom of the inning. Bacon finished 3-for-4 with two RBI and one run.

Bombers starter Edgar Sanchez (Cedar Valley) went eight complete innings, allowing five runs on 11 hits while striking out four to get the win.

Mallards reliever Charlie Naso (Illinois) was tabbed with the loss after allowing five runs on three hits in two innings of work.

The Mallards travel to Kalamazoo tomorrow to face the Kalamazoo Growlers at 6:05 pm (CT). The series will mark the end of the Mallards 2014 Northwoods League season.
