Madison, Wis. – The Madison Mallards have announced the signings of three pitchers to their 2015 roster. Right-handed pitcher Corbin Olmstead (North Florida University) and left-handed pitcher Logan Browning (University of Florida) will be in Madison for their first summer, while right-handed pitcher A.J. Bogucki (University of North Carolina) returns for his second.
Olmstead, a 6’3”, 210-pound right-hander who also plays first and third base, will join Madison’s roster following the completion of his junior season with the Ospreys. Olmstead has logged 30.2 innings and eight saves as North Florida’s closer this season, boasting a team-low ERA of 0.29 and sterling strikeout-to-walk ratio of 5.75.
Originally from Tampa, Florida, Olmstead attended Jefferson High School prior to his time at North Florida. As a freshman, he was named to both Perfect Game USA and Baseball America’s All-American freshman squad while making the Atlantic Sun Conference’s Academic Honor Roll. Olmstead is currently pursuing a degree in Electrical Engineering.
Browning, a 5’8” left-handed pitcher who also contributes as an outfielder for the Gators, will join the Mallards after his freshman campaign with Florida. Browning has compiled seven innings on the mound this spring to go with six strikeouts, six walks and an ERA of 5.14 while posting a .218 batting average in 28 at-bats.
He is originally from Lakeland, Florida, and attended his hometown high school of Lakeland Christian, a school for which he posted an ERA of 1.87 and struck out 85 hitters in 47.2 innings as a senior. Browning was selected by the Cincinnati Reds in the thirty-sixth round of Major League Baseball’s first-year amateur draft last summer.
Bogucki, a 6’4”, 215-pound right-handed pitcher, will return to the Mallards pitching staff following his sophomore season with the Tar Heels. Bogucki owns an ERA of 4.32 with 12 strikeouts and five walks over 10.1 innings out of North Carolina’s bullpen this season, holding batters to just one extra-base hit in that span. Last summer, Bogucki played a contributing role to the Mallards pitching staff, finishing the season with a 3-2 record and 37 strikeouts in 48 innings pitched.
Originally from Gilbertsville, Pennsylvania, Bogucki was named a top-100 draft prospect by Baseball America as a senior at Boyertown Area High School and also one of the 20 best right-handed pitchers in the nation. He has excelled in the classroom and plans on majoring in business at the University of North Carolina.
