Post Game Option #9 Zimbrick Honda LogoMadison, Wis. (June 17) – The Madison Mallards (11-11) opened the final series of their season-long six-game road swing with a 6-1 victory over the Kalamazoo Growlers (6-17) Wednesday night at Homer Stryker Field.

For the first time this season, each hitter in Madison’s starting lineup tallied at least one base-hit in route to a winning effort that saw the Mallards go a combined 11-for-36 (.306) at the plate. Mallards pitching held Kalamazoo to a 3-for-29 (.103) performance.

The Mallards jumped out to an early lead in the top of the first, an inning in which Jean Ramirez (Illinois State) plated J.J. Gould (Jacksonville) on an RBI single. Cameron Frost (Washington State) followed suit with a run scored in the top of the second, giving Madison an early 2-0 advantage. Jed Sprague (Pacific) added to the Mallards total with a 2 RBI double in the top of the fourth. Another run scored courtesy of Anthony Gonsolin’s (St. Mary’s College) RBI double increased Madison’s lead to 6-0 heading into the seventh. Kalamazoo would muster up just one run in the bottom of the frame.

Westin Wuethrich (Madison College) cashed in a fantastic outing on the mound for the Mallards, allowing no runs on two hits, three walks and four strikeouts – a performance that lowered his season ERA to 0.79. Jesse Kay (California), Vince Arobio (Pacific) and Mike Kaelin (Buffalo) each pitched in relief in Madison’s winning effort, combining to allow just one earned run on one hit, three walks and three strikeouts. Kaelin closed the door on Kalamazoo with a strong ninth inning, needing just 16 pitches (seven for a swing-and-miss) to extend his scoreless innings streak to 12.2.
