June2(2)Playing from behind for the first time all season, the Mallards rallied for four runs in the 8th inning and never looked back, earning an 8-5 victory over the Rockford Rivets. This Mallards win marks their third straight victory in the opening week, presented by Edvest.

The Mallards jumped out to an early lead, as Matt Vierling (Notre Dame) tripled to score Cameron Frost (Washington State) and AJ Montoya (Toledo) as part of a three run first inning.

 

Mike Reitcheck (University of Pennsylvania) made his first start on the mound for the Mallards, going five innings and allowing four runs, three of them earned.  He tallied six strikeouts while allowing five hits.

After the Rivets rallied from a three run deficit to take a 5-4 lead, the Mallards responded in the 8th inning with a four run outburst. The comeback was highlighted by a two-run double by Frost to give the Mallards an 8-5 lead.

Alex Smith (North Florida) made his first appearance for the Mallards, closing the door in the eight and ninth innings to earn his first save of the season.
