July7thAfter combining for 26 runs in their contest a night ago, the Mallards (0-1, 23-14) and the Battle Creek Bombers (1-0, 19-18) will return to action tonight, looking for a more fast-paced game in tonight’s contest. The offensive showcase from a night ago saw the Bombers top the Mallards by a score 15-11, in a game where each team scored their highest run totals of the season and the final out wasn’t recorded until a little over four hours had passed since the first pitch.

Frank German (North Florida) will look to keep the score down in this game, as the right-hander has been sensational for the Mallards in 2016. German currently owns a 1.89 ERA to accompany a 2-1 record, with 16 strikeouts in 19 innings of work. German has not allowed more than a single earned run in any of his previous five starts, including no runs allowed in his last outing against Lakeshore.

German’s opposition will come in the form of Andrew Click (Davenport), who will be making his season debut for the Bombers tonight. The right-hander just completed his sophomore season with the Davenport Panthers, where he pitched five innings and posted a 1.80 ERA.

Madison accounted for two of the game’s five home runs last night, extending their season home run total to 34 as a team. Sam Armstrong (Jacksonville) mashed his team-leading seventh home run of 2016 in the first inning and Cam Comer (Virginia) launched his second home run of the season in the third frame. Madison has now hit a home run in each of their last four games and leads the Northwoods League in long balls this season.

Tonight’s game against Battle Creek will get underway at 7:05 pm from the Duck Pond at Warner Park. Wear your green to the ballpark, as it is The Great Dane Summertime St. Patty’s Day featuring The Kissers. There will also be a Quench Gum giveaway.  Tickets are available for purchase by visiting MallardsBaseball.com, calling the Mallards ticket office at 608-246-4277, or stopping in the ticket office at 2920 N Sherman Ave.
