July9thThe Mallards (1-2, 24-15) will take on the Wisconsin Woodchucks (2-1, 15-23) in the final game of their two-game set this evening, as the Mallards will look to revitalize themselves after the loss they suffered to the Woodchucks a night ago. Madison managed two runs on just three hits off of Woodchucks starter Devin Skapura (Texas A&M Corpus Christi), whose eight innings of work earned him Northwoods League Pitcher of the Night.

Madison will throw Mike Reitcheck (Penn) tonight, who will look to improve upon his last outing against the St. Cloud Rox. In that contest, Reitcheck allowed four runs on seven hits across five innings, taking the no-decision in the Mallards eventual win. The lefty stands at a perfect 3-0 record, owning a 5.06 ERA, 1.50 WHIP and 26 strikeouts in 32 complete innings.

Reitcheck’s opposition will be Tanner Thomas (Utah), who will be making his second start and sixth appearance on the 2016 season. Thomas allowed four runs in his first 3.2 innings of work this season prior to pitching five two-hit innings against the Wisconsin Rapids Rafters on June 27th.  He would make a start on July 3rd in Green Bay, giving up six runs on eight hits across six innings. On the season, Thomas is 0-0 with a 6.13 ERA, with five walks and 11 strikeouts in 14.2 frames.

The Mallards were able to make some spectacular plays in the field last night, racking up two outfield assists in the loss. Zach Jarrett (UNC-Charlotte) was able to gun a runner at second, giving him his fourth outfield assist on the season, the most in the Northwoods League. The Mallards have received an outfield assist in three of their last four contests.

Madison will look to improve on their situational hitting in tonight’s contest, as their inability to plate runners in scoring position has limited their run total over the past few games. The Mallards are hitting just .202 with runners in scoring position and two outs.

Tonight’s game against the Wisconsin Woodchucks will get underway at 6:35 pm from the Duck Pond at Warner Park. The game will feature the ZOOperstars! presented by Maple Leaf Landscaping. It will also be El Noche de Beisbol presented by Madison Gas and Electric. There will be a Zimbrick Honda & Agrace HospiceCare Win the Civic Auto Raffle.  Tickets are available for purchase by visiting MallardsBaseball.com, calling the Mallards ticket office at 608-246-4277, or stopping in the ticket office at 2920 N Sherman Ave.
