JULY27THWEBMadison, WI – July 27th, 2016. The Mallards (9-9, 32-22) fell to the Lakeshore Chinooks (8-10, 23-31) by a score of 4-0 on Wednesday night, as the contest marked the final regular season matchups between the two squads this summer.

Pitching took the upper hand early in this game, with the Mallards and Chinooks trading zeros for the first five frames. Madison starter Mike Reitcheck (Penn) allowed only four hits in that span, mowing through Lakeshore batters until the sixth inning. An RBI groundout from Cody Ducote (LSU) would give Lakeshore a 1-0 lead, with a two-out RBI single from Hayden Senger (Miami-Ohio) would double the Lakeshore advantage heading into the late innings.

Alex Smith (North Florida) would come on in relief of Reitcheck, pitching an out in the sixth as well as the entire seventh inning. Smith allowed back-to-back leadoff singles to Lakeshore’s eight and nine hitters, both of which came around to score. The 4-0 score would hold through the late frames and eventually go final.

Lakeshore starter Tyler Jandron (UW-Parkside) turned in his best performance of 2016 against the Mallards on Wednesday night, allowing four hits across eight scoreless frames while striking out six. Jandron was able to quiet a Madison offense that was coming off of a 15-run outburst on Tuesday.

Jandron would pick up the win, improving him to 2-1 on the season. Mike Reitcheck took the loss, his first of the summer, after allowing two runs on seven hits across 5.2 innings of work. The blemish dropped the left-hander to 6-1 on the 2016 campaign.

Nico Hoerner (Stanford) smacked a double in the fifth inning, his tenth of the season. His ten doubles put him in a tie with Nate Palace (Valparaiso) for the team lead.

The Mallards will return to the Duck Pond on Friday, July 29th, to take on the Green Bay Bullfrogs at 7:05 pm. The game will feature Bucket Ruckus, presented by Endres Manufacturing.  There will also be a Kalahari Resort Indoor Theme Park Pass giveaway.  Tickets are available for purchase by visiting MallardsBaseball.com, calling the Mallards ticket office at 608-246-4277, or stopping in the ticket office at 2920 N Sherman Ave.
