AUGUST 8thThe Mallards (19-11, 42-24) will host the Willmar Stingers (19-11, 37-29) on Monday night, marking Madison’s second inter-division matchup of the summer. The Mallards currently sit in second place in the South in both the second half and overall standings, with Willmar finding themselves in third place in the North in the second half and fourth overall.

The contest will see the first start of 2016 from newly acquired Drew Slade (Ripon College), who earned a four-inning save in his first and only appearance of the year. Slade, a 5’9,”160-pound left-hander from Pardeeville, Wisconsin, just finished his sophomore year at Ripon where he earned all-conference honors. He led the Red Hawks in wins (3), strikeouts (50) and ERA (2.39).

The Stingers will hand the ball to Corey Binger (Nebraska-Omaha), who has been a part of Willmar’s rotation since day one. The right-hander is 3-4 with a 5.22 ERA on the summer, striking out 34 batsmen in 50 frames in 2016. Binger is coming off of his best start of the year, where he pitched eight innings of three-hit baseball in a win over St. Cloud.

The Mallards enter Monday on a seven-game win streak, their longest of the season. They’ve been getting huge contributions from the bats, as Madison is hitting .376 as a club in their last ten outings. In that period, the Mallards have eight guys hitting over .350, most notably Josh Stowers (Louisville), Cameron Frost (Washington State) and Zach Jarrett (UNC-Charlotte) who are hitting .487, .442 and .432 in that span, respectively.

Monday’s game against the Willmar Stingers will get underway from the Duck Pond at Warner Park at 7:05 pm. The game will feature a trading card giveaway. There will also be a Dean & St. Mary’s An Apple A Day giveaway. An appearance will be made by former 4-time MLB All-Star and 1949 American League Rookie of the Year Roy Sievers. It will be PITCH Night at the ballpark, with postgame catch on the field followed by premier pilot episode of FOX's new hit show, "PITCH." It will be Red Wing Night as well as Dentistry for Madison: Dr. Jay Hazen Star Wars Night.  The Mallards will wear Darth Vader themed jerseys to be auctioned off during the game to benefit DAIS.
