Madison, Wis. – The Madison Mallards (1-2) fell to the Lakeshore Chinooks (2-1), 13-0 on Thursday evening at Warner Park. Lakeshore starter Cyrillo Watson (Illinois) was effective as he pitched seven scoreless innings. Mallards left fielder Tyler Williams (Arizona State) was a bright spot for the Mallards as he reached base twice with a hit and a walk. Williams also made a spectacular leaping catch in front of the left field wall.

The Mallards were strong defensively all evening. In the bottom of the fifth, right fielder Jett Manning (Alabama) made a diving play on a sinking line drive with the bases loaded. The great catch allowed the Mallards to work out of a bases loaded jam without allowing a run.

The defense got the Mallards out of trouble again in the seventh as the Chinooks had the bases loaded with one out again. This time, the infield combination of Cole Daily (Notre Dame), Cade Bunnell (Madison College), and Kian O’Brien (Madison College) turned a 6-4-3 double play to get Madison out of the inning. In the top of the ninth, the combination of centerfielder Doran Turchin (Illinois) and Daily executed an impressive relay on a double to centerfield to nab Chinook, Brian Sobieski, trying to score from first on a double.

The Mallards will look to rebound tomorrow night as they face the Chinooks again at Warner Park at 7:05 PM. The game features Dentistry for Madison: Dr. Jay Hazen Chris Farley bobblehead giveaway with a Chris Farley best dressed costume and impersonation contest. It is also Wisconsin Lottery night. Gates are scheduled to open at 5:30 PM.
