Madison, Wis. – Following an opening series with the Fond du Lac Dock Spiders, the Madison Mallards are set to take on the Lakeshore Chinooks at 6:35 tonight at Warner Park. The Mallards late-inning rally fell short last night as they dropped the second game of the series to the Dock Spiders, 5-3. Despite the loss, Mallards starting pitcher Simon Rosenblum-Larson (Harvard) earned Northwoods League Pitcher of the Night. Rosenblum-Larson worked 5.2 innings and allowed three hits and a single run. He also racked up nine strikeouts while facing 23 batters. Rosenblum-Larson, a Madison, WI native, joins the Mallards after starting nine games for the Harvard Crimson this spring.

Tonight, the Mallards (1-1) welcome the Lakeshore Chinooks (1-1) to the Duck Pond for the start of a two-game series. The Chinooks arrive in Madison from Battle Creek after splitting a two-game series with the Bombers. Through two games, Lakeshore first baseman Zach Biermann has led the Chinooks offensively as he has four hits in ten at bats. He also knocked in a run and tallied a double.

For the Mallards, Jett Manning (Alabama) and Doran Turchin (Illinois) have paved the way for the team’s offense. Manning sports a .333 average, has stolen a base and driven in a pair of runs. Turchin has started both games in centerfield for Madison and owns a .286 average. His three-run shot in the first inning on opening night got the Mallards offense rolling.

Set to take the mound for the Mallards is freshman right-hander Matt McCarty (Louisville). McCarty is from Oak Creek, WI and graduated from South Milwaukee High School last spring. McCarty posted a 1.25 ERA in 44 innings during his senior year. He also racked up 63 strikeouts while walking only five.

Gates are scheduled to open at 5:00 PM tonight at Warner Park for Delton Grand Wisconsin Dells Night. First pitch is at 6:35 PM. For game coverage, follow along on Twitter at @MadisonMallards or check out northwoodsleague.com for live game statistics.
