Madison, Wis. – After a big win last night, the Madison Mallards (12-11, 31-27) go for a sweep of the Battle Creek Bombers (15-8, 35-23) at Warner Park. After Madison starter Tyler Dyson (Florida) had a strong outing last night, 2017 all-star Simon Rosenblum-Larson (Harvard) will look to give the Mallards a second straight quality start.

Rosenblum-Larson has been phenomenal this season through nine starts on the mound. He owns a league-leading 1.16 ERA and a 2-1 record. In 46.1 innings of work, Rosenblum-Larson has struck out 53 and walked only eleven while allowing 31 hits. He has yet to allow multiple earned runs in an outing this season and has held opposing batters to a .185 average.

The Harvard righty will be backed by the Mallards offense that broke out for 13 runs last night. After a four-game skid that saw the Madison offense struggle, the Mallards got back on track last night as every Madison batter recorded a base hit and six drove in runs. The Madison lineup will look to continue their patient approach at the plate tonight after drawing twelve walks and only striking out six times last night.

Game Notes

Bashing the Bombers

In game six of the season series against the Bombers, the Mallards are going for win number five tonight. The Mallards have outscored the Bombers this season 28 to ten and have dominated with both offense and pitching. The Madison pitching staff has racked up 44 strikeouts through five games against Battle Creek while issuing only 13 walks. Meanwhile, Madison batters own a .369 on base percentage against the Bombers.

Elsenpeter Makes It Look Easy

Madison second baseman Matt Elsenpeter (NDSU) has been hot at the plate lately as he had two hits last night and knocked in a pair of runs. Elsenpeter is batting .375 over his last five games and has been an important piece in the back half of the Mallards lineup. Because of his production at the plate, Elsenpeter will likely continue to see more at bats.

Loving Lefties

Mallards utility man David Vinsky (Northwood) has been extremely effective this season against left handed pitching. Vinsky owns a .444 average and has ripped four doubles in 27 at bats against southpaws. Overall, he has reached base at a .516 clip with lefties on the mound.

Tonight’s game against the Bombers is set to begin at 4:05 PM. Gates are scheduled to open at 2:30 PM and the game features Harry Potter Night featuring Maynard Potter bobblehead giveaway presented by Zimbrick Honda.
