Madison, WI – The Mallards have signed two consistent hitters to join the outfield corps for this season. Junior, E.J. Ranel (Lenoir-Rhyne University), and sophomore, Ben Anderson (Georgia) will be joining the Mallards at the end of their spring season.
Ranel, a 5-foot-11 utility outfielder from Dacula, Georgia, is in his first season with the Bears. In his previous season at Chattahoochee Valley Community College, Ranel scored 13 runs on seven hits and three home runs. He ended the season with a .992 OBPS while swiping three bases. In his current 2019 campaign, Ranel has 15 runs and 15 RBIs on 19 hits. Lenoir-Rhyne’s next contest, on Saturday, starts a three game weekend series at Georgia Southwestern.
Anderson, a 6-foot-1 sophomore from LaGrange, Georgia, is also entering his first season with a new team after transferring from Furman University. In his freshman season, Anderson batted a team best .361, with 46 runs on 73 hits. He snagged a school record with seven triples, 107 total bases, and .530 SLG. After his prolific 2018 campaign, Anderson earned Collegiate Baseball Freshman All-American Honors. He is sitting out the 2019 spring season, due to NCAA transfer rules which requires a player to sit out one season after transferring schools. Georgia is looking to keep their 19-2 start going with a three game series against LSU starting on Friday.
The Mallards open the 2019 campaign on May 28 against newcomers to the Northwoods League, the Kokomo Jackrabbits. Single game tickets will go on sale April 27.
