The Madison Mallards (9-1) evened the series against Green Bay (6-4) after defeating the team 5-2. Madison’s starting pitcher A.J. Archambo (Oral Roberts) threw five hitless innings to shut down the opposing lineup.
The Mallards got off to a hot start in the bottom of the second inning scoring four runs, powered by four timely singles. The inning was capped by Ben Anderson’s (Georgia) fourth RBI of the year.
Starting for Green Bay, Will Saxton (Florida International) was not able to handle the Mallards lineup. Saxton pitched through four innings, allowing five runs.
Archambo dominated in his second start for the Mallards, taking a no hitter into the sixth, before allowing a bunt single to Justin Green (Louisiana Lafayette). Through the six innings he earned three strikeouts and later was named Impact Player of the night.
Rallying in the top of the ninth, a two run home run by Joe Mason (Mount Olive) put Green Bay on the board, trailing 5-2. Green Bay’s stamina did not last as Theo Denlinger (Bradley) came out of the bullpen. Denlinger struck out the only batter he faced to pick up his third save of the season.
Turning Point
Archambo struck out Mike Ruggiero (Wagner) in the top of the fifth to strand two in scoring position.
