Last night the Madison Mallards (26-14) jumped back into the win column, after rallying in the bottom of the eighth to defeat the Wisconsin Woodchucks (19-21) 6-5. The triumph marked the Mallards 26 win of the season.

The newest face to join the Mallards, John Sakowski (Creighton), was the unexpected hero on the mound. The RHP made his Mallards’ debut in the top of the eighth, striking out three through the ninth inning to end the game and pick up his first win of the summer.

This afternoon the Mallards are set to square off against division rival, the Green Bay Booyah (17-22), for game one of a two game series. Last time the two met, the Mallards earned a sweep and clinched a playoff berth at Capital Credit Union Park.

On the mound to get the game started is RHP Quinn Gudaitis (Illinois Wesleyan). The right hander is making his seventh start for the Mallards. Over 30 and two-thirds innings pitched, he has thrown 24 strikeouts and allowed only 15 walks. He currently holds a 3.81 ERA and leads the Mallards pitching staff in wins with four.

Today at the Duck Pond is A1 Furniture Princess Day, including an appearance by Jasmine, Elsa and Belle, with a pre-game princess parade. First pitch is set for 1:05 p.m., gates will open at 12:05 p.m.
