Battle Creek, Mich. — In an offensive fireworks display, the Battle Creeek Bombers (7-11) held on to defeat the Madison Mallards (14-5) by a final score of 11-8 in game one of a two-game road series. Together, the two offenses tallied 19 runs and 32 hits. Fighting from behind all night, the Mallards scored two in the top of the ninth and had the tying run at the plate when the last out was recorded.
TURNING POINT
The Mallards could not recover from a five-run Bomber second inning. Madison battled back with two runs in the third and three in the fifth inning, but each time they got close, Battle Creek responded with more artillery shells. In the end, the Mallards rally fell one big hit short.
