The Madison Mallards (11-1) added another win to their record after defeating the Fond du Lac Dock Spiders (6-6) 3-0.

The Mallards scored in the bottom of the first off a solo home run by E.J. Ranel (Lenoir-Rhyne) to grab a quick 1-0 lead. It was Ranel’s third home run of the season, tying the team high.

Both teams bats remained silent until the fourth inning when the Dock Spiders were able to load the bases with two outs. Thriving under the pressure, the Mallards starting pitcher Eliot Turnquist (Madison College), was able to work his way out of the jam and strand the base runners.

Relieving Turquist after the fourth, Jarrett Scheelk (Madison College) worked his way through the fifth and sixth innings. He earned one strikeout and prevented the Dock Spiders from scoring.

The Mallards bats were loud during the sixth, as two runners scored on back-to-back RBI singles from Drew Benefield (Louisville) and Nick Gile (Madison College) to give Madison a 3-0 lead.

Throughout the eighth and ninth innings the Dock Spiders lineup struggled against the Mallards’ third pitcher, Deylen Miley (Bellarmine). Miley entered during the seventh inning and struck out two to finish out the game.

Turnquist had a stellar debut for the Mallards. He powered through five innings and earned six strikeouts. After the game, Turnquist was named Impact Player of the Night for his contribution.

The loss was handed to Houston Glad (Texas Wesleyan). Glad gave up a solo home run in the first and five hits in the sixth.
