Following a thrilling 7-6 win on Tuesday night, the Madison Mallards (6-3) stayed in Madison to host the Lakeshore Chinooks (4-7) for a doubleheader. The Mallards won a rain shortened game 4-0 in game one, and they lost a rain shortened game 11-5 in game two.

Kyle Subers (Lafayette) pitched a gem in just his second start of the season for the Ducks. He threw all five innings in game one and allowed just one hit, striking out seven.

The Mallards scored a run in the first on an RBI-single from Alex Iadisernia (Elon) and then had back-to-back home runs from Cam Frederick (Nebraska Omaha) and Cam Cratic (Missouri State) in the second. It was Frederick’s first on the season and Cratic’s fifth.

The game originally went into a 30-minute lightning delay in the bottom of the fifth but then the rain came and the game was eventually called as final.

In game two, the Chinooks went up 2-0 right away in the first on a two-run homer from Brennen Bales (Houston Baptist).

However, the Mallards matched that in the first with a two-run bomb from Iadisernia. It was Iadisernia’s seventh home run on the season to put him alone in second place on the Northwoods League leaderboard.

Two more runs came home in the first for the Ducks on a ball hit by Matt Scannell (Princeton) that was fumbled out at shortstop.

Lakeshore then poured it on offensively, scoring two in the second, three in the fourth and four in the fifth to take a commanding 11-5 lead. Bales led the Chinooks with four RBI’s on the night.

The game was then called in the seventh inning due to lightning and rain. Both games in today’s doubleheader were shortened due to rain, but count as official games.

The Mallards are now 2-3 against the Chinooks this season after splitting today’s doubleheader.

Next up for the Mallards is a road trip to Green Bay to matchup with the Booyah. First pitch for the games on both Thursday and Friday is set for 6:35 p.m.
