With less than two weeks from the start of the 2004 Northwoods League season, the Madison Mallards have recently added three players to their roster. Utility man Jared Johnson joins pitchers Billy Phillips and Andy Sigerich as the latest additions to the 2004 Mallards.

Sigerich returns to Madison this summer after pitching in seven games for the Mallards last season. Sigerich left the Mallards during the middle of the 2003 season after suffering an injury. Sigerich was three and one with a 2.54 ERA before the injury. The University of Illinois sophomore also struck out 36 batters in 39 innings of work during his tenure in Madison. Sigerich joins collegiate teammates Chad Frk and Ryan Rogowski as Mallards in 2004.

In addition to Sigerich, the Mallards have also signed Billy Phillips of Florida Gulf Coast University. In this his first season at FGCU, Phillips has a seven and three record with a 2.96 ERA. Phillips has struck out 64 batters in 76 innings pitched. Prior to 2003, Phillips played at Pasco Hernando Community College in Florida.

Along with the two pitchers signed, Jared Johnson has also been added to the Mallards roster. Johnson, a junior at Faulker University (Ala.), is currently batting .369 with 44 runs scored. Johnson has also hit 14 home runs this season while driving in 48 RBI.

Along with the signings of these three players, the Mallards have also announced that pitchers Corey Cabral, Jake Hansen, and John Flood will not be returning to Madison in 2004 because of injuries suffered during their collegiate seasons.

The Mallards begin the 2004 season on June 2nd against the Wisconsin Woodchucks in Wausau. The home portion of the season starts on June 9th at 7:05 PM against the Mankato MoonDogs. Tickets are now available at the Mallards office by calling (608) 246-4277 or online at www.mallardsbaseball.com.
