Fond du Lac, WI – There was no shortage of offense in Fond du Lac on Tuesday night, as the Madison Mallards defeated the Fond du Lac Dock Spiders 18-14.

After being held scoreless in the first eight innings on Monday night in Wausau, the Mallards came out swinging in this game. Madison scored five runs in the first two innings of the contest.

The Mallards rallied for five more runs in the top of the fourth inning to take a 10-3 lead. However, the Dock Spiders would come roaring back. Fond du Lac scored four runs in the bottom of the fourth inning, and then tied the game 10-10 on a three-run home run from Parker Knoll (Lawrence University) in the bottom of the fifth.

The Mallards regained the lead in the top of the sixth on a Will Vierling (Louisville) RBI double, and they extended it to 13-10 on a Charlie Marion (Madison College) two-run double. From there, Madison was able to fend off the Fond du Lac offense and hold on to improve to 9-5 on the season.

Aaron Jungers (Lindenwood) was credited with the win in relief for the Mallards. He pitched two innings and allowed three earned runs. Jacob Arndt (Missouri – St. Louis) was charged with the loss for the Dock Spiders. Carter Daniels (North Carolina A&T) picked up the save for the Mallards. Daniels was the only pitcher for either team who did not allow a run in the game.

Marion was locked in at the plate for the Mallards all night long. He had four hits, reached base five times and drove in seven runs. Connor Rasmussen (Tulane) and Justin Best (Florida State) each collected three hits in the win.

The Mallards and Dock Spiders will meet again on Wednesday night at Warner Park. First pitch is scheduled for 6:05 p.m.
