Outfielder Ryan Rogowski continued to produce for the Big Ten Champion Illinois Fighting Illini, going three-for-four in Illinois? 12-9 loss to Iowa. He reached base all five times in Friday night?s game. The Big Ten leader in steals added two more to his season total and scored three runs to go along with his solo home run. Rogowski went two-for-three in the first game of Illinois doubleheader on Saturday and was two-for-four in Illinois? regular season finale on Sunday, a 7-1 loss to Iowa. The 2004 Northwoods League All-star is hitting a team high .381 with four home runs, six triples and 26 RBI and leads the Big Ten in hits (85), triples (six) and stolen bases (30).
Mallard pitchers Ryan Zink and Zach Peterson combined to pitch six strong innings on Thursday, pacing the UIC Flames in a 4-2 rain-shortened victory over IP-Fort Wayne. Zink started the game for UIC and picked up the victory, improving his record to 7-5 on the season. The sophomore threw three innings and allowed one earned run while scattering three hits and striking out one. Peterson came in to relieve Zink and pitched three innings to earn his second save of the season. He did not give up an earned run and struck out one.
Adam Mills finished the season on a high note for UNC-Charlotte this weekend, throwing a complete game two-hitter in the 49ers 13-2 win over Memphis. Mills improved to 6-4 on the season for UNCC while striking out seven and giving up just one earned run.
Catcher Kris Rochelle helped pace the UNC-Charlotte offense in their rout of Memphis, collecting three hits, to go along with two runs and two RBI. Rochelle had a big game for the 49ers Friday as well, scoring two runs and adding an RBI in a 9-7 come from behind victory. Rochelle is hitting .285 with a team high six home runs and 44 RBI.
Catcher Nate Trumm went two-for-five with two RBI in Northern Iowa?s 8-7 loss to Southwest Missouri State Thursday. Trumm scored the only run for the Panthers in their 5-1 loss to SMS Friday. Trumm is hitting a team best .330 with four home runs and 39 RBI.
J.J. Hollenbeck picked up his first save of the year for Virginia Military Institute in a 6-0 victory on Saturday against Radford. Hollenbeck helped clinch a berth for VMI in the Big South Conference Tournament and helped establish a new school record for victories in a season with 27.
