After being swept by the Eau Claire Express, the Madison Mallards are looking to bust out their own brooms as they take on the Wisconsin Woodchucks tonight, June 14, 2006 and tomorrow night. Both games are at 6:35 p.m. in Wausau.
A sweep is a reasonable proposition as the Mallards swept a two-game series against the Woodchucks last week.
Casey Baron (pictured below) will take the mound for the Mallards tonight. In two starts with the Mallards this season, Baron has gone 1-1 with an impressive 2.87 ERA and a .222 opposing batting average. In 15.2 innings pitched, Baron has struck out six and walked only two while giving up 12 hits and five runs, all of them earned.
In his last appearance, Baron pitched a 3-0 complete-game shutout on Tuesday, June 6, against Eau Claire.
Starting for the Woodchucks tonight will be Owen Reid. It will be the first appearance of the season for the Baylor freshman. In 11 appearances and one start for the Bears, Reid threw for a 6.75 ERA and went 1-1 over 18.2 innings pitched. He allowed 22 hits, 15 runs, 14 earned runs, 12 walks and struck out 12.
