Madison, Wis. – The Madison Mallards defeated the Kalamazoo Growlers in game one of their doubleheader this afternoon 6-2 in seven innings.  Starting pitcher Christian Taugner (Brown) was stellar on the mound in the Mallards home opener.  The right hander went five innings and gave up just a single hit and no runs while picking up the win.  Reliever Ben Neumann (Northern Illinois) pitched the last two innings and and gave up two runs on four hits.  

The Mallards offense benefitted from four Growler errors and eight walks in the game and scored two runs in the second and three in the third.  Efficient base running led to the Mallards leading 6-0 by the fifth inning.  Center fielder Alex Bacon (North Florida) led the Mallards offense, going 1-for-2 with an RBI and a run scored.

Game two is currently underway. The Mallards start a two game set with the La Crosse Loggers tomorrow.  First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 pm.
