7-19 pre game CROPPEDMadison, Wis. (July 19) – Following Saturday’s postponed contest, the Madison Mallards (11-7, 31-22) and Battle Creek Bombers (5-12, 18-34) will square off in a double-header Sunday evening at C.O. Brown Stadium. Game one of the twin-bill will begin at 3:05 p.m. CT and pick up where Saturday’s game paused, with the Bombers holding a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning. Game two will begin approximately 30 minutes after game two, and will be seven innings in length.

Mallards field manager Donnie Scott and his coaching staff have announced that Andrew Beckwith (Coastal Carolina) will start game one of today’s double-header, which will be a continuation of his sixth start of the 2015 season from Saturday night. Beckwith is no stranger to the Bombers, having pitched twice against them this summer (9.2 IP, 6 ER, 1 BB, 6 K). Overall, the 6-foot-0 right hander is 2-2 with a 3.52 ERA and 17:4 K/BB ratio across 30.2 innings of work.

The nightcap of Sunday’s twin-bill will see Grant Spranger (Southeastern CC) tab his fifth start of the summer for the Mallards. Spranger, a 6-foot-1 left-handed pitcher from Bettendorf, Ia., collected his first winning decision of 2015 in game one of last Monday’s double-header against La Crosse, ceding just one earned run across 5.2 strong innings. In tandem with his bullpen work, Spranger has held opponents to a .254 slugging percentage in 30.2 total frames.

  • Playoff Positioning – With losses from both Green Bay and La Crosse on Saturday, the Mallards hold sole possession of second place in the South Division in the second half of the season with a .611 winning percentage. Madison is one game back of the Bullfrogs for second place in the overall season standings.

The Mallards will return to the Duck Pond on Thursday, July 23 against the La Crosse Loggers. Thursday will feature XPOGO, presented by Charter Communications. UW-Health Sport Medicine will also provide a Developing Swing Fundamentals and Power Clinic on the field from 9:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. for children ages 9-16 for $40.
