Accessible Seating at Corbett Field

The Minot Hot Tots, in conjunction with the Minot Parks District and the Northwoods League Foundation Grant, wanted to enhance the experience for returning Hot Tots fans and increase accessibility options in our historic ballpark.

About The Project

Accessibility Needs

The Problem

Previously, there were few spots along the first baseline with a good sightline of the field for someone in a wheelchair. In fact, there were few wheelchair-accessible seats in the ballpark. The best seats in the stadium are in the grandstand, however, there are no ramps leading to the grandstand for those fans who are challenged by stairs. By removing the current fence and replacing it with a 3’ tall chain link fence and safety netting, we will be giving these folks who are challenged with stairs a place where they can sit and enjoy a baseball game with the rest of Minot without being hindered by poor visibility.

Inclusivity

Our Solution

Completing this project made good seating accessible for all fans and enhanced the experience and seating capacity.  Thanks to the Northwoods League Foundation Grant, the fence was built onto the warning track to give the fans a closer experience of the action. This allows more people from Minot and the surrounding area to enjoy baseball games and the added entertainment value that comes along with Hot Tots baseball.

Promoting Change

Systemic & Social Change

This project helps create a positive change by allowing people with or without disabilities the opportunity to sit in seats close to the action on the field while still having good visibility.

Activity and Attendance at Corbett Field is not limited to the
residents of Minot. People from across North Dakota will use Corbett Field as the facility is home to multiple teams of varying ages and leagues, including high school, college,
and American Legion. Corbett Field is also host to the State Class B High School Tournament in 2023.
