Riggins Hitting Beats Rafters

Madison Mallard, Harold Riggins (North Carolina State), was instrumental in helping the Mallards beat the Wisconsin Rapids Rafters 8-2 at Witter Field. Riggins was 2-for-4 on the night with four RBI and one run scored. One of his hits was a homerun, his first of the season. Riggins hit .331 for the NC State Wolfpack this spring with 12 homeruns which was second on the team.

Smith Stays Hot

Jordan Smith (St. Cloud State) had an absolutely great performance on Saturday night helping the Stingers beat the Thunder Bay Border Cats 12-7. Smith finished the game 3-for-4 with three runs scored and three RBI. Smith finished the 2010 St. Cloud season at .457 batting average for the Huskies and an amazing 43 extra base hits. He also had 17 stolen bases as a freshman with and fielding percentage of .991. Smith recently hit the first home run in Willmar Stingers franchise history.

Pellegrino Has Huge Day at the Plate

Catcher Dan Pellegrino (California Riverside) had one of the best offensive nights in the NWL this 2010 season. Pellegrino went 4-for-5 with one run scored and an amazing six RBI. He also homered to raise his batting average to .286. The Riverside catcher hit .283 this season in 24 games and had a .988 fielding percentage for the Highlanders.

Kauten Drives in Runs for Bombers

The Battle Creek Bombers beat the Madison Mallards 10-8 and were led by Brett Kauten (Spring Arbor). Kauten had a huge day at the plate going 3-for-5 with two runs scored and three RBI. He also had a walk. Kauten has helped the Bombers win their last two games in a row.

Gonzalez Has Great Game

Eduardo Gonzalez (Alcorn State) helped Willmar score 14 runs against the Rochester Honkers Wednesday night. The first basemen went 3-for-4 with one run scored and three RBI. Gonzalez had two doubles to go along with a hit by pitch. The Florida native is currently hitting .310 for the Stingers. During his sophomore season at Alcorn State he hit .350 with 26 extra base hits and 53 RBI.

Bruno Stays Hot at the Plate

Designate hitter, Jamie Bruno (Louisiana State), was 2-for-4 Tuesday night to help beat the Eau Claire Express 7-3. Bruno hit his 3rd homerun of the season and two RBI. The lefty is currently hitting .314 with ten RBI in nine games played. This is Bruno’s 3rd two-hit game of the short 2010 season and continues his seven game hit streak.

Great 1st Outing for Wickens

Short-stop Stephen Wickens was 3-for-4 with a run scored in his first game of the season for the Lunkers. The Florida Gulf Coast product also had a stolen base on the day and helped lead Brainerd over Mankato 4-3. Wickens, a native of Ontario, rejoins the Lunkers after playing in Brainerd for the 2009 season. While at Florida Gulf Coast in 2010, Wickens hit .359 with 17 doubles and 34 RBI. He also had an outstanding .962 fielding percentage while starting 57 games on the season.

Rafter Has Big Day At Plate

Matt Johnson, an outfielder from California Baptist, was 2-for-4 for the Wisconsin Rapids Rafters tonight. He scored two runs, but more importantly had three RBI from his lead-off spot to beat the Woodchucks 7-5. Johnson started 54 games this season for the Cal Baptist Lancers and had double-digit extra base hits and 15 steals while playing center field.

Meredith’s Grand Slam Lifts Loggers

The San Diego State product, Brandon Meredith, was 2-for-4 on the day and had an outstanding 4RBI with one run scored. Meredith hit a grand slam to lead the Loggers over the Green Bay Bullfrogs on Saturday. Meredith led San Diego State with a .383 batting average with 54 RBI and 18 extra-base hits. Meredith started in 50 of 51 games for the Aztecs in 2010.

Barker Has Big Day for Mallards

Chris Barker led the Madison Mallards over the Waterloo Bucks 8-5. The UNC-Greensboro center fielder went 4-for-4 with two RBI and one run scored. Two of his four hits were doubles and is now hitting .296 for the Mallards. Barker hit .241 in 51 games played for Greensboro. The Racine native had 34 hits and nine extra base hits on the 2010 season.

Whitmore Has 3 Hit Day for Woodchucks

Second basemen Travis Whitmore (Pittsburgh) was 3-for-5 with two runs scored and an RBI against the La Crosse Loggers. He also stole two bases on the night and improved his average to .316 for the Woodchucks. Whitemore hit .369 for the Pittsburgh Panthers in 2010 with 23 extra base hits and 11 steals. He helped led the Panthers to a 38-18 record and an 18-8 record in the Big East.

Nyisztor Hits Go Ahead Grand Slam

Steve Nyisztor a 6’4’’ IF from Rutgers went 2-for-6 against the Duluth Huskies, but hit a go-head grand slam in the top of the 6th. The River Bats went on to win 10-9 against the Huskies. He is currently hitting .296 with eight hits and eight RBI. For Rutgers he led the team in batting average at .410. He also had 24 extra base hits to go along with 11 steals, 51 RBI, and a fielding percentage of .989.
