Jackson Cooke (pictured), drove in three runs as the Border Cats opened a six-game road trip with a win in Duluth.

The Thunder Bay Border Cats took over sole possession of first place in the Great Plains East Division on Sunday with a come from behind 7-6 win over the Duluth Huskies at Wade Stadium. The victory upped the Cats second half record to 4-1 as Thunder Bay won its third straight and for the eighth time in 10 games. The loss dropped the Huskies record to 3-2.

The Cats let a 4-0 lead slip away and trailed 6-4 before rallying for three runs in the top of the eighth inning. Jackson Cooke (University of Tennessee at Martin) tied the game with a two-run double to deep right field and Garrett Sloan (Bowling Green State University) followed with an RBI single to drive in the eventual winning run. Right fielder Brody Chrisman (Purdue University) preserved the lead by throwing out a Huskies runner at home plate to end the eighth inning. Cooke had two hits and knocked in three runs, while Sloan added two hits as the Cats took a 5-4 lead in the 12-game season series against the Huskies for the Superior Cup.

Adam Metivier (Piedmont University) made a solid debut on the mound as the soft tossing southpaw started with three scoreless frames and wound up giving up four runs over 5 1/3 innings. Peter Fusek (University of Wisconsin-Parkside) got the win in relief and Trent Jordan (Arkansas State University-Mountain Home) notched the save as he struck out a pair over two scoreless innings.

The Cats and Huskies conclude their two-game set on Monday at 7:35pm ET. Righthander Turner Spoljaric (University of Oregon) is scheduled to make his first start of the season for Thunder Bay.
