The Thunder Bay Border Cats took on the first half Great Plains East Division winners on Friday and scored a 7-4 victory over the La Crosse Loggers before 816 fans at Port Arthur Stadium. The win improved the Cats second half record to 2-1 and 20-17 overall on the season.
Leading 2-0, the Cats broke the game open with a five-run fifth inning highlighted by a three-run home run off the bat of Riley Iffrig (Indiana State University). Brody Chrisman (Purdue University) went 2-3 at the plate with a double and a pair of runs batted in, while Jackson Cooke (University of Tennessee at Martin) also had two hits and drove in a run.
Dylan Mulcahy (Stephen F. Austin State University) turned in a stellar performance in his first start of the season. The righthander from Austin, Texas, fired five shutout innings, giving up just three hits, while striking out seven. Max Ramirez IV (Niagara University) fanned three batters over two scoreless innings in relief for his first save of the season.
The Cats close out their eight-game homestand on Saturday against the Loggers at 6:35pm. Julian Parson (University of South Carolina-Upstate) is the scheduled starter for Thunder Bay. The stadium ticket office opens game days at 10:00am.
