The Thunder Bay Border Cats scored their third win over the Duluth Huskies in as many nights, clinching the Superior Cup for the second consecutive season.
The Border Cats took a first-inning lead and never looked back, rolling to a 9-4 road victory The two sides squared off at Wade Stadium in Duluth on Thursday, following two previous matchups at Port Arthur Stadium in Thunder Bay.
Jeremy Sheffield (Georgetown University) upped his team-leading RBI total to 43, driving home a pair of runs. Kaiden Ashton (University of Central Missouri) and Joey Ruiz (Three Rivers Community College) also each brought home two runs.
Caleb Watkins (Grayson Community College) and Corey Morro (University of Science & Arts of Oklahoma) each had multi-hit nights, including a double.
Ethan Froud (Pittsburg State University) went six innings, allowing only two runs while striking out four, to pick up the victory.
Thunder Bay’s overall record now stands at 34-27, and 13-14 in the second half. The Border Cats move to within 4.5 games of the second half Great Plains East division lead.
The Border Cats are now 6-1 against the Huskies this season.
The Border Cats close out this week’s slate against the Huskies Friday, with Braden Gluth (North Dakota State University) expected to get the start for Thunder Bay. The Border Cats will be back at Port Arthur Stadium on Monday, August 4, to take on the La Crosse Loggers.
