Willmar, Minn.- After a two and a-half hour rain delay the Willmar Stingers took on the Bismarck Larks Friday night.

Due to rain in the Willmar area the game that was supposed to start at 7:05 was delayed until 9:35, for the Willmar Stingers it didn’t matter.

Manager Bo Henning sent Jayson Newman (Cal-State Northridge) to the mound to start the game off for Willmar. Newman was superb, in just two innings Newman struck out five Larks batters and did not allow a run to cross the plate.

Matt Ornelas (Nova Southeastern) was originally the starter for the Stingers, but after the rain delay Ornelas was called on to come out of the bullpen. Ornelas took over in the third inning and pitched the remainder of the game and was superb. Ornelas went seven innings, struck out a season high 10 Larks and only allowed three base hits.

Nic Hernandez (Cal Poly Pomona), after a four hit performance on Thursday, continued to swing a hot bat for the Stingers. Hernandez on the night went 2-4, had 3 RBIs and a pair of doubles.

Willmar won the game 5-0 and stays within one game of the North Division second half championship.
