Wisconsin Rapids, Wis.– It’s opening week in the Northwoods League, presented by Edvest. After a 13-3 drubbing of the Wisconsin Woodchucks (1-2) last night, the Wisconsin Rapids Rafters (2-1) will look to extend their current two-game winning streak to three as they travel to Wausau.

In last night’s game, Jake Lumley (Canisius) continued his hot hitting by going 4 for 5 with 2 RBIs. Plenty of other Rafters joined in on the hit parade, including 2 RBIs from Dustin Woodcock (SIU-Edwardsville) and 3 from Patrick Cromwell (Santa Ana College). Logan Mattix (Georgia College) also hit his first homerun of the season in the victory.

Pitching has been strong for the Rafters so far in this short season, and the lanky right-hander Vinny Santarsiero will take the mound for the Rats in hopes of continuing that string of quality starts. Standing at a 6’8”, the DIII collegiate pitcher from Fontbonne University will make just his first Northwoods League start.

The Woodchucks pitcher for tonight’s game is still to be determined. After two straight loses, Wisconsin is hoping to get back on track with a win and break their two-game losing streak.

Tonight’s first pitch is slated for 7:05 PM with the gates opening at 6:05 PM.
