Pair of Islander Outfielders Added from Texas A&M Corpus Christi

Rafters sign Texas Collegiate League top prospect Anderson, slugger Djehuti-Mes

Wisconsin Rapids, Wis. – A year after Texas A&M Corpus Christi pitcher Chris Cooper broke the Rafters single-season ERA record on the mound, the team announced they have again partnered with the university to bring two outfielders into the fold for the 2017 season. It was announced today that sophomore outfielders Nick Anderson and Nkosi Djehuti-Mes have signed contracts for the upcoming season.

Following his freshman season with the Islanders, the speedy outfielder shined for the Victoria Generals of the Texas Collegiate League over the summer of 2016. With his stellar play, he was named the top prospect in the Texas League after batting .287 with 4 home runs, 24 RBIs, and 12 stolen bases in 49 games. In his sophomore season at Corpus Chrisit, Anderson smacked eight doubles, which was good for second on the team. He finished the year with a .252 batting average and 20 runs scored. This spring, through 8 games, Anderson carries a .345 batting average with two doubles, seven RBIs, and four stolen bases. His career started in Sugar Land, Texas in high school where he was named All-District twice and Second Team All-Houston in 2013, his sophomore year.

 

OF – Nkosi Djehuti-Mes, 6’3” 230, (R/R), Redshirt Sophomore, Texas A&M Corpus Christi

Anderson’s teammate at Texas A&M Corpus Christi, Nkosi Djehuti-Mes, will also join the Rafters this summer. A native of Oakland, California, Djehuti-Mes started his collegiate career at Southern University before transferring to Corpus Christi. In 8 games this spring, Djehuti-Mes has a .286 batting average with one home run and 7 RBIs on the young season. Nicknamed ‘The Big Hurt Junior’ by many around him, one scouts tabbed Djehuti-Mes with some of the “best power bat potential I have ever seen in my career as a scout.”

 

The season and home opener for the Wisconsin Rapids Rafters is May 30th at 7:05 against the Kenosha Kingfish.
