Wisconsin Rapids fall to Madison to open final home and home series with Mallards

 

Wisconsin Rapids, Wis. – The Wisconsin Rapids Rafters (22-28, 7-8 2nd half) fell to the Madison Mallards (35-16, 7-8 2nd half) 9-3 at Witter Field. The Rafters trailed by two entering the ninth, but the Mallards scored four times in the inning to move their advantage to six.

Madison scored three in the first frame with a double from Tyler Plantier and a two-run home run from David Vinsky. The Rafters answered in the fourth as Jack-Thomas Wold (UNLV) led off the inning with a home run to right. Two more Mallards runs scored in sixth with a two-run base hit from Jesse Forestell. The cranberry and gold responded with two runs in the bottom of the seventh. Matt Schmidt (Michigan) delivered the big hit scoring Steven Rivas (Long Beach State) and Payton Robertson (Louisiana State Shreveport) bringing the Rafters within two, 5-3.

Madison plated four in the ninth to pull away from Wisconsin Rapids. One run scored on a wild pitch, Jake Randa brought in three with a double.

The loss goes to Chandler Greenfield (2-1, 4.19 ERA). Greenfield struck out a season-high seven Mallards. The win went to Sean Leland (3-2, 3.40 ERA). Leland put forth a quality start with six innings of one-run ball.

The Rafters hit the road for the next three games starting with Madison tomorrow. First pitch from Warner Park is set for 7:05 pm CT.
