Halton is the 104th Northwoods League player to reach the Major Leagues

Former Mankato MoonDog Sean Halton was called up by the Milwaukee Brewers on Thursday. Halton is the 104th former Northwoods League player to reach the major league level.

Halton, who played collegiately at Fresno City College and Lewis-Clark State College, played for the Mankato MoonDogs during the 2006 season, and was drafted by the Colorado Rockies in the 31st round in 2005 and then again in the 42nd round by the Rockies in 2006. The Brewers then selected Halton in the 13th round of the 2009 draft.

During the 2006 season Halton hit .227 in 52 games. Halton also hit 5 doubles and drove in 14 runs during his time with the MoonDogs.

Halton began his minor league career in 2009 in rookie ball with the Brewers affiliates in the Pioneer and Arizona leagues. He ended his first pro season hitting .345 with 6 home runs and 45 runs driven in.

From 2010 through 2012 Halton spent time at Lo A Wisconsin, High A Brevard County, AA Huntsville and in AAA with Nashville. During the 2012 season Halton was in AAA with the Nashville Sounds and put together another good season. He ended up hitting .274 with 17 home runs and 57 RBI.

During the 2013 season Halton was hitting .288 with 9 home runs and 35 RBI for the AAA Nashville Sounds through 66 games. He also has a .987 fielding percentage in the outfield.

In his first Major League appearance on Thursday, against the Cubs, Halton hit a pinch hit single in his first Major League at bat in the 5th inning off of Matt Garza.

The Northwoods League has more teams, plays more games, and draws more fans than any other Summer Collegiate League in North America. The 2013 season marks the 20th season of Northwoods League baseball. 104 former players have gone on to play Major League baseball. Notable alumni of the league include Curtis Granderson (Yankees), Chris Sale (White Sox), Max Scherzer (Tigers), Josh Willingham (Twins) and Jordan Zimmermann (Nationals).
