Rochester 10, St. Cloud 9

Riding their longest winning streak of the season, the Honkers added to it in this afternoon’s ballgame, winning by a score of 10-9 at Mayo Field over the St. Cloud River Bats. The Honkers are now 5-1 in the first half, and have won every game in this home stand. Kevin Johnson got the start on the mound for Rochester. After a few rough starts earlier this season, Johnson put together his longest start of the year, pitching five innings, and allowing five runs on six hits. Honkers All-Star Nick Dolsky would attempt to close the game out in the ninth inning.  Dolsky would run into trouble, giving up two singles and a run before being removed with two outs. The River Bats had a chance to tie the game, but a great throw from left fielder Aaron Jones cut down the tying run at the plate for the second out of the ninth. Brett Hambright had a huge day at the plate for the Honkers, driving his first career Northwoods League home run, a grand slam at that, over the left field wall in the first inning. 

La Crosse 6, Eau Claire 4

The La Crosse Loggers won for the 13th time in their last 16 games on Tuesday night when they defeated the Eau Claire Express 6-4 at Carson Park in Eau Claire. The Loggers would get things going early in this one scoring three times in the top of the first off of Eau Claire starter Ryan Longstreth and never looked back. Erik Schoenrock became the first six-game winner in the Northwoods League after tossing seven innings, his longest outing of the season, limiting the Express to three runs on just four hits.  Dan Child pitched the final two innings to secure the victory and earn his third save of the year. Andrew Knapp continued to swing a hot bat, going 3-5 with two runs scored and raised his average to .463. 

Wisconsin 4, Green Bay 3

Garrett Yrigoyen hit a two-out single in the bottom of the ninth to score Carlos Escobar and break a long standing tie, propelling the Wisconsin Woodchucks to a 4—3 walk-off win over the visiting Green Bay Bullfrogs. Both teams scored three runs over the third and fourth innings, before both pitching staffs tightened up and allowed only two hits apiece over the last five innings. After placing a runner in scoring position in their half of the ninth, the Bullfrogs allowed leadoff hitter Carlos Escobar to reach on an error in the ‘Chucks half of the frame, letting him to advance to second and third on a sacrifice fly and a groundout — before scoring an unearned game-winning run on Yrigoyen’s single. Ryan Iverson, who pitched a scoreless ninth inning in relief of Dimitri De La Fuente, took the win and improved to 5—0, while Adam Cimber took the tough-luck loss and fell to 1—1.

Battle Creek 4, Wisconsin Rapids 1

The Bombers made it four in a row Tuesday night at Witter Field, taking the first of three games against the Wisconsin Rapids Rafters 4-1. Both teams put a run on the board in the second inning with three hits apiece, and Bryce Redeker did it for Battle Creek, just one night removed from his walk-off homer to sweep the Woodchucks. The game was scoreless until the ninth when the Bombers pulled away: Danny Rockett continued to prove why he’s an All-Star selection, slugging a two-run double, and he scored when the Rafters shortstop bobbled a Jordan Dean ground ball. Nick Frey had another one-run outing, this time going six innings, but Caleb Vincent picked up his second win in as many appearances, and Kristian Calibuso picked up another save.

Alexandria 3, Brainerd 1

Matt Fyffe flirted with a no-hitter while leading the Alexandria Beetles to victory over the Brainerd Lakes Area Lunkers by a final score of 3-1 Tuesday night in Alexandria, MN. Mike Theofanopolous’ two run, pinch hit single gave the Beetles the lead in the bottom of the eighth. Kevin Grove hit a solo home run in the bottom of the second inning off of Lunkers starter Aaron Griffin to give the Beetles a 1-0 lead they would hold until the seventh inning. Fyffe was outstanding in his seventh start of the season, striking out five while walking one.

Willmar 7, Duluth 3

Willmar scored six runs in the first two innings, which is all they needed in a 7-3 victory against Duluth Tuesday night at Bill Taunton Stadium.

 Jason Leblebijian led the way with a 2-for-4 day at the plate with two RBIs. Jarid Scarafiotti also had two hits in the game and scored a run. Garrett Borba and Mitch Rowan each had two runs, while Borba, Rowan, Sean Dwyer and Mitch Delfino each had RBIs for the Stingers.

 Dan Russell earned his second-straight victory against the Duluth Huskies after going seven innings for his second consecutive outing. Russell scattered nine hits to allow three runs while striking out three.

Mankato 7, Thunder Bay 5

Zak Wasserman’s two-out, two-run single in the seventh inning propelled the Mankato MoonDogs to a 7-5 victory over the Thunder Bay Border Cats, Thursday evening at Port Arthur Stadium. Jeff Rohrbach had been primarily used as a long reliever this year, but due to several injuries in the starting rotation, Rohrbach made his first start of the summer for the MoonDogs. Rohrbach pitched effectively at times, but ran into trouble in the bottom of the sixth inning, giving up two runs, and was eventually taken out of the ball game trailing 4-3. With the MoonDogs trailing heading into the top of the seventh, Zak Wasserman came to the plate with a pair of runners on base. Wasserman blasted a hard groundball into centerfield, knocking in both runners to take the lead.

Waterloo 5, Madison 2

The Madison Mallards fell to the Waterloo Bucks 5-2 Tuesday night in front of 5,482 fans at the "Duck Pond," as they could not overcome a four-run first inning by the Bucks. The loss brings the Mallards’ losing streak to five games, and the season series with Waterloo is now tied at three games apiece. Waterloo got off to a fast start and was able to maintain momentum throughout the game. The Bucks sent eight batters to the plate in the first inning and stranded only one as they plated four runs out of the gate. The Bucks got the win from Joe Zwierzynski. Zwierzynski picked up his first win this season by going two solid innings and allowing no runs on two hits. He struck out two batters. Jonathan Perez pitched the eighth and the ninth to notch his first save of the season.
