Bullfrogs Add Two from the Big Ten

(GREEN BAY, WI) The Green Bay Bullfrogs announced the signings of Nick O’Shea and Chris Roberts from the Big Ten Conference for the upcoming summer campaign.

“We strive every season to have some of the best college ballplayers from Wisconsin on our roster,” Bullfrogs Owner and President Jeff Royle said. “ Chris is one of those kids.”

Roberts is the first home grown product Green Bay has signed before the start of the season. A native of Oshkosh, WI, he is an all-Big Ten performer for Michigan State. The 6-foot-1 185 pound outfielder earned third-team Freshman All-American honors by Ping Baseball in 2007. He then followed with all-Big Ten honors in 2008 after leading the Spartans in hits (65) and batting (.363) during his sophomore campaign.

This season Roberts is among MSU’s leaders in batting (.333), total bases (44), hits (32) and runs (15) in 24 games played. During the 2006 MLB Draft he was selected in the 27th round by the Cleveland Indians.

O’Shea is a redshirt freshman who plays catcher and first base for the Minnesota Golden Gophers. He is a 6-foot-3 220 pounder who brings a strong arm and solid power at the plate for Green Bay. Last season for the Bullfrogs he led the team with season-high six home runs to go along with 15 doubles and a .424 slugging percentage.

O’Shea was an offensive juggernaut for the Bullfrogs in the first half of last summer’s season as he was named to the Northwoods League All-Star Game. At the mid-way point of the season he had belted six homers while batting in a team-high 27 RBIs. He also had a slugging percentage of .512 and a .317 batting average. In the All-Star game O’Shea recorded a hit and scored a run in an 8-4 winning effort.

“It means a lot of have a kid like Nick back for a second year,” Green Bay Owner and President Jeff Royle said. “With another year under his belt with the Gophers we expect big things from him offensively.”

This spring for the 25th ranked Golden Gophers O’Shea is hitting .228 with two home runs and 13 RBI.
