(Rochester, MN) The Rochester Honkers Baseball Club announced today the signing of Mike Giovenco, a right-handed pitcher from North Park University in Chicago, Illinois.

Giovenco is a 6’6,” 235-pound junior, who is currently 4-4 with a 3.28 ERA. He has pitched 46.2 innings, striking out 51 and holding opponents to a .202 batting average against. Giovenco is North Park’s pitching workhorse, leading the team in starts (7), complete games (2) and innings pitched.

As a sophomore, Giovenco finished the season 7-3 and broke the team’s single season strikeout record with 87 K’s in 72.1 innings pitched. He led the entire conference in strikeouts and opposing batting average (.193). Giovenco earned First Team All-CCIW honors and then was drafted in the 26th round of the Major League Baseball first year player draft by the Minnesota Twins, but decided to return to school.

The Rochester Honkers 17th season begins on June 2nd when they travel to Mankato, MN for a 7:05pm start. Their home opener is Thursday, June 3rd against Mankato at Mayo Field starting at 7:05pm.
