Derek Howell, a sophomore right-handed pitcher from Seminole State College, has officially signed with the Wisconsin Woodchucks.

Standing 5-foot-11-inches tall, the 190 pound Howell is known as a crafty strikeout artist, whose skills have earned him a Division I scholarship for Fall of 2011 at Louisiana- Lafayette University. 

The future Rajin’ Cajun has consistently logged more strikeouts than innings pitched throughout his career, and has enjoyed solid levels of success at every level pitched.

After going 5-2 with a 5.04 ERA in his first foray into College baseball last season, the Krum, Texas native is 1-1 with a 2.16 ERA through 16.2 innings this spring. 

Last summer, Howell made his summer league debut playing for Melville of the Canadian Major Western League.  Logging 45.1 innings for the Millionaires, Howell posted an impressive 3.57 ERA with 56 strikeouts, only 19 walks, and a 4-3 record- numbers that are indicative of continued success at higher levels of summer ball. 

A District 13-2A MVP as a junior in high school, Howell’s constantly improving numbers, crafty strikeout skills, and ability to consistently eat up innings should make the young righty a valuable weapon in the 2011 ‘Chucks pitching corps.
