The Green Bay Bullfrogs are excited to announce two more signings for the 2011 season.  John Colella and Tim Giel are both right handed pitchers who know all about pitching in the biggest spots.

Giel, a sophomore at Columbia University, recently wrapped up a season in which he led the Lions in appearances, saves, and ERA.  Giel pitched 26 1/3 innings this spring, racking up 26 strikeouts, an impressive 1.71 ERA and a single-season program record 5 saves.  Last summer, the Gibsonia, PA native was outstanding for the Butler Blue Sox of the Prospect League, compiling a 6-3 record and 2.05 ERA in 66 innings pitched.

John Colella had an equally impressive spring as the closer for the College of the Holy Cross.  Over the course of 42 innings, Colella notched 3 wins, 9 saves, and 40 strikeouts.  Colella, a Herdon, VA native allowed just 31 hits while leading the Crusaders with a 3.00 ERA.  While Colella’s 2011 statistics are impressive, his performance in summer of 2010 in the New York Collegiate Baseball League was astounding.  In 22 2/3 innings pitched, Colella finished with 13 saves, just 8 hits allowed and a gaudy 37 strikeouts.  Colella finished his summer without allowing an earned run for a 0.00 ERA.

“John and Tim will be key components to a very deep 2011 pitching staff,” said Field Manager Jordan Bischel. “Tim has shown that he can be effective both as a starter and a late reliever and John is establishing himself as one of the best late relievers in college baseball.”
