The Wisconsin Rapids Rafters put the tying and go ahead runs on in the eighth inning of a one run game, but could not score allowing the Wisconsin Woodchucks to plate four in the top of the ninth and win 8-3. Rafters and Woodchucks will square off again Saturday at 6:05. Nestor Bautista (Ball State) started for the Rafters and allowed just two earned runs, but left after six innings with the score tied at three. In all Bautista allowed seven hits over six innings with two walks and three strikeouts.Augey Bill (Arizona) allowed a run in the seventh to break the deadlock and ended up being tabbed with his first loss of the season. After a scoreless eighth, Jack Larsen (UW Whitewater) allowed the four insurance runs in theninth to blow the game open.

A pair of clutch two out hits propelled a mid-game rally for the Wisconsin Rapids Rafters as they jumped to a lead and held on with some outstanding relief work for an 8-4 win over the Wisconsin Woodchucks in game two of a Saturday split double-header. Trailing 3-2 with two outs in the bottom of the ninth inning Garrett Nash (Oregon State), already with a home run on the day, singled and stole second, Justin Jirschele (UW Stevens Point) then lofted an RBI single to center scoring Nash and tying the game. A hit batter and walk loaded the bases before Josh Cyr (North Alabama) singled home two, giving the Rafters a 5-3 advantage.

Madison 3, La Crosse 2

The Madison Mallards defeated the La Crosse Loggers 3-2 Saturday night in front of 6,750 fans at the "Duck Pond." The game was full of exciting defensive plays by both teams andwith the victory, the Mallards are now back to .500 in the second half of the season. The win was the fourth in a row for Madison, who now trails the first-place Loggers by only 3.5 games in the South Division of the Northwoods League.

St. Cloud 11, Rochester 0

Rochester 6, St. Cloud 5

The Rochester Honkers travelled to St. Cloud for a pair of double headers this weekend and split in the first half of the weekend on Saturday in St. Cloud.  The Honkers would drop game one by a score of 11-0 and rebound in game two, winning 6-5 in eight innings at Joe Faber Field. The River Bats used a four run first inning in game one to lead themselves to an 11-0 victory over the Honkers. Rochester would only muster up six hits in the game; two of them were doubles off the bat of Johnny Coy (Wichita State). 

The River Bats would start game two like they did game one by scoring in the first inning, this time it was just one run however. The Honkers would come back in the top of the fifth with a five run inning. The Honkers would score their five runs on just one hit. All five runs would be recorded as unearned runs with two errors made in the inning. The River Bats would tie it up in their half of the fifth and the game would remain tied through seven to force extra innings. 

Battle Creek 9, Waterloo 1

The Waterloo Bucks struggled through a tough game and were defeated 9-1 in the first of a three-game series at home versus the La Crosse Loggers. The Loggers defense played extremely well throughout the game and was able to shut down the Waterloo Bucks hitting. The Bucks got only two hits in the course of the game compared to fourteen hits from the Loggers.

Willmar 3, Alexandria 1

Every Stinger had at least one hit, and the Willmar pitching staff retired 15 consecutive hitters at one point to defeat the Alexandria Beetles at Bill Taunton Stadium Saturday night, 3-1. Pat Stover (Santa Clara) led the offensive attack with a 2-for-4 day, including a double and two RBIs. Eduardo Gonzalez (Alcorn State) and Jason Leblebijian (Bradley) also had multi-hit games for the Stingers. Leblebijian went 2-for-4 with a run scored, while Gonzalez was 2-for-3 with a run and a sacrifice bunt. Mitch Delfino scored the other run for the Stingers on a 1-for-4 day at the plate. Chris Woolley drove home his third RBI in two games while going 1-for-4 aswell. Dan Russell (Western Illinois) earned the victory after allowing only one run on four hits in five innings on the mound. Russell improved his record to 6-2 on the season while striking out six and not walking a single batter. Russell retired the last six batters he faced to begin a stretch where the Stingers recorded 15-straight outs on defense.

Mankato 4, Duluth 3

The Mankato MoonDogs scored four runs in the top of the ninth inningto defeat the Duluth Huskies in a 4-3 come from behind victory Saturday nightat Wade Stadium. Mankato’s offense finally woke up in the ninth inning, asHuskies’ closer, Ryan Ullman (Concordia TX) allowed back-to-back walks and abase hit to kick off the inning. With one out, pinch hitter Whitt Dorsey (S.Alabama) drove in the MoonDogs first run, scoring Joe Loftus (Vanderbilt) on afielder’s choice. Ullman would once again load the bases, this time for ChrisRoss (Montevallo) who ripped a hard hit ground ball back up the middle scoringthree runs. Ross led the MoonDogs offensively, finishing the day 2-for-5 withthree RBI.
