Brainerd Lakes Area 8, Thunder Bay 2 (Game 1)

The Lunkers earned a doubleheader sweep against the Border Cats Sunday afternoon. Tommy Reyes (UC-Irvine) had three hits while Casey Roche (Pittsburgh) homered and drove in three to lead Brainerd Lakes Area at the plate in the game one victory. Charlie Henderson (Regis) fanned seven in six strong innings to improve to 3-1. Sam Maus (St. Olaf) had Thunder Bay’s only RBI.

Brainerd Lakes Area 3, Thunder Bay 2 (Game 2)

Kye Winter (Augustana) went the distance on the mound in game two to help complete the sweep for the Lunkers. Thunder Bay jumped in front with a two-run third inning, but a two-run fourth for Brainerd Lakes Area put them up for good. Steven Brault (Regis) scored two of Brainerd’s runs while Jon Crist (Youngstown State) drove in two. Ino Patron (Long Beach State) had a pair of hits in the loss for the Border Cats.

Green Bay 10, Eau Claire 6

The Bullfrogs scored at least one run in every inning except for the seventh and Phillip Ervin (Samford) was a single away from the cycle in Green Bay’s home victory over Eau Claire Sunday afternoon. The two teams combined for 27 hits on the day. Ervin finished 3-for-4 with three runs and four RBI to go along with his three extra-base-hits. Ryan Schilter (Concordia) picked up three hits of his own for Green Bay. Both Nick Addison (Illinois-Chicago) and Jordan Camel (Alvin CC) had three hits for the Express. One of Addison’s hits was his seventh home run of the season.

Waterloo 14, Battle Creek 4

Battle Creek held a 4-3 lead through 6 1/2 innings before Waterloo erupted with a 9-run 7th inning on the way to a blowout victory. Cameron Perkins (Purdue) did the most damage at the plate going 4-for-6 with his eighth home run, three runs scored and a game-high four RBIs. Jordan Adams (Central Michigan) hit his sixth home run and drove in three while Jeremy Lucas (Indiana State) had a pair of hits and three runs scored. Jordan Dean (Central Michigan) led the Bombers at the plate with three hits and an RBI.

Alexandria 17, Willmar 4

Alexandria scored 12 runs in the first three innings to cruise to a 17-4 victory over the Willmar Stingers Sunday afternoon at Knute Nelson Memorial Park in Alexandria. Mike LeViseur (Seton Hill) had the biggest day at the plate for the Beetles going 4-for-4 with a home run, six RBI and two runs scored. Chris Fritts (Tennessee) finished 2-for-2 with a home run, three RBI and three runs scored. Kevin Grove (St. John’s) added blasted his team-leading seventh home run of the season. Eduardo Gonzalez (Alcorn State) and Sean Dwyer (Florida Gulf Coast) each hit home runs in the loss for this Stingers.

Mankato 1, Duluth 0

Mankato starting pitcher Tyler Niederklein (Nebraska) took a perfect game into the bottom of the fifth inning and his offense gave him just enough help for the MoonDogs to defeat the Huskies in Duluth. Huskies catcher Chris Manship (Kansas) broke up the perfect game bid with the first of four hits Niederklein would allow. He went 7 1/3 innings and improved to 4-1 on the season. He out dueled the top pitcher in the Northwoods League, in terms of ERA. Joey Novak (Harvard) fell to 4-3 even though he held the MoonDogs offense to just one hit in 7 2/3 innings. The lone run in the game scored on a bases-loaded hit by pitch in the top of the 5th inning. Novak’s ERA now stands at 1.52.

Madison 5, La Crosse 4

The Madison Mallards extended their winning streak to five games Sunday night with a one-run victory of the La Crosse Loggers in front of 6,164 fans at the "Duck Pond." Jordan Owen (Tennessee-Martin) capped off a two-run eighth inning with an RBI single to give the Mallards a come-from-behind victory. Michael Handel (Minnesota) went 2-for-3 with a home run and two runs scored to lead Madison at the plate. Justin Parr (Illinois) added two hits and a run. Eric Schmitz (Wisconsin-Whitewater) threw two scoreless innings of relief to pick up his first win of the season. La Crosse held an early 4-0 lead in this game. Tyler Smith (Oregon State) homered for the Loggers in the loss.

Wisconsin 4, Wisconsin Rapids 3 (10 innings)

Aaron Gates (Pepperdine) hit a walk-off bases-loaded single with two outs in the bottom of the tenth inning Sunday afternoon to give the Wisconsin Woodchucks a 4-3 victory over the visiting Wisconsin Rapids Rafters. The Woodchucks held the Rafters scoreless through eight innings, giving up a three-run lead off two homeruns and an error in the ninth. Brandon Hohl (Illinois) and Josh Cyr (North Alabama) hit the clutch home runs for the Rafters. For Cyr, it was his 10th on the season, which is second most in the Northwoods League. Justin Burns (UC-San Diego) was magnificent starting for the ‘Chucks, going seven shutout innings in the no-decision.

Rochester 7, St. Cloud 3 (Game 1)

The Rochester Honkers started the doubleheader strong, scoring three runs in the first inning of game number one. They would add to it with two more in the second before allowing St. Cloud to score two more in their half of the second to make the score 5-2 after two. The Honkers would add two more in the fourth before a late rally by the River Bats would give them one final run in the seventh. The Honkers were led at the plate by Spencer Navin (Vanderbilt) and Davy Wright (TCU). Navin went 4-for-4 at the plate while scoring and driving in one run, and Wright went 1-for-4 while driving in three Honker runs. The Honkers got a complete game out of pitcher D.J. Snelten (Minnesota) who only allowed three hits on the game along with three runs. It was Snelten’s first victory of the season, making his record 1-2 this year. Carlos Lopez (Cal State-Fullerton) scored two of St. Cloud’s three runs.

St. Cloud 6, Rochester 0 (Game 2)

Michael Fagan (Princeton) tossed 5 2/3 scoreless innings and Jeremy Banks (Youngstown State) had two hits and a pair of RBIs to help St. Cloud split the doubleheader. After three scoreless innings, the River Bats opened up with three runs in the fourth. Banks hit into a fielder’s choice that brought home Kyle Stiner (New Mexico). Two batters later, an error allowed both Bryan Haar (San Diego) and Banks to score. The River Bats added two runs in the fifth and one in the sixth on their way to the shutout victory. Fagan fanned nine and allowed just one hit in improving his record to 3-1. He now leads the Northwoods League in strike outs with 65.
