After a month of preliminary voting, Thunder Bay’s Port Arthur Stadium continues to gain support for title of “Canada’s Favourite Ballpark”. The home of the Northwoods League’s Thunder Bay Border Cats is currently in the finals of the online competition being conducted by Baseball Canada. One week remains in the voting between Port Arthur Stadium and Labatt Park of London, Ontario.

Port Arthur Stadium has been the home to the Border Cats since their inaugural season in 2003. Since that time, the 60-year-old venue has hosted the 2009 Northwoods League All-Star Game, the 2010 World Junior Baseball Championships, and nine Northwoods League playoff games – two times seeing the Border Cats win a Northwoods League Championship on the Port Arthur Stadium Field. The Border Cats defeated the Madison Mallards in three games in both the 2005 and 2008 NWL Championship Series.

From the Border Cats Organization:

“The Thunder Bay Border Cats are extremely proud to have Subway Field at Port Arthur Stadium nominated in ‘Canada’s Favourite Ballpark’ contest. The stadium has a rich tradition of baseball history dating back to 1951 and is known as one the top ballparks in the Northwoods League.  The Border Cats organization is confident the fans of Thunder Bay and all of those who have travelled to our fine city to experience the ballpark will take time to vote and make Subway Field at Port Arthur Stadium number one in Canada.”
