(Rochester, MN)– Rochester Honkers 2011 and 2012 first baseman Johnny Coy was named Louisville Slugger’s National Player of the Week by collegiate baseball after his stellar weekend performance against the University of North Dakota. Coy was also honored as the Player of the Week by the Missouri Valley Conference after leading the Shockers to a 5-0 start, beating Oral Roberts before sweeping the Fighting Sioux in a 4-game series.

Coy went 15-25 (.600) with 8 runs, 3 double, 2 homeruns, and 20 RBIs, collecting multiple hits in each of the 5 games last week. Coy was also perfect in 35 total chances at first base.

In game 1 against North Dakota on Friday, Coy went 2-5 with a run scored and an RBI. In game 2, Coy was 3-5 with 3 runs scored and 7 RBIs, and 4-5 with 3 RBIs and 2 doubles in game 3. In game 4 on Sunday, Coy finished the UND series going 4-5 with 2 homeruns and 9 RBIs, just one RBI shy of the school record. The four hits and 9 RBIs are new career highs for Coy.

Johnny Coy and the Wichita State Shockers will next travel to Honolulu for a 4-game series against Hawaii beginning on March 1st
