ROCHESTER, Minn. (June 5, 2012) — In Tuesday’s action around the Northwoods League, the Woodchucks walk-off and the defending champions are successful in extra innings for the second night in a row. 

La Crosse 3, Wisconsin 4

Mike Bernal (Oklahoma State) hit a two-run walk-off home run to help the Woodchucks sweep their two-game series with the Loggers. The Woodchucks will visit the Wisconsin Rapids Rafters on Wednesday with a start scheduled for 7:05 p.m. La Crosse will make their way to Eau Claire to visit the Express for a 6:35 p.m. start. 

St. Cloud 2, Waterloo 3

The Bucks improve to 7-0 in 2012, partially in thanks to starter Brock Hudgens (Charlotte) who pitched four innings and allowed just one run while striking out six batters. St. Cloud travels back home on Wednesday to host the Alexandria Beetles with a first pitch scheduled for 7:05 p.m. The Bucks will travel to Willmar to face the Stingers at 7:05 p.m.

Alexandria 1, Thunder Bay 7


The Border Cats pounced for five runs in the bottom of the fourth inning to take the lead and hold on for the series sweep. The Border Cats were led on the mound by Wes Parsons (Jackson State). Parsons threw seven innings allowing just one run and striking out two Alexandria batters. Thunder Bay travels to Mankato on Wednesday for a 7:05 p.m. start, while the Beetles make the trip to St. Cloud to play the Rox at 7:05 p.m. 

Mankato 13, Duluth 10

The MoonDogs took the lead for good in this back-and-forth game in the top of the 11th inning on pinch-hitter Chase Fowler’s (Southern Mississippi) RBI single. Mankato added two more runs in the same inning. The Huskies will host the Rochester Honkers for a 7:05 p.m. start on Wednesday, while Mankato will host the Thunder Bay Border Cats at 7:05 p.m.

Wisconsin Rapids  2, Madison 0

The Wisconsin Rapids pitching staff of Cole Webb (Coffeyville CC), Tommy Danczyk (St. Thomas, MN) and Skyler Debilzen (UW-La Crosse) combined for the five-hit shutout as the Rafters blanked the Mallards, 2-0. The Rafters will host the Wisconsin Woodchucks at 7:05 p.m. on Wednesday as the Mallards travel to Green Bay for a 7:05 p.m. first pitch. 

Eau Claire 1, Lakeshore 2

The Chinooks recorded their franchise’s first home victory on Tuesday as they defeated the Express, 2-1. The go-ahead run came from a solo jack from Sam Koenig (UW-Milwaukee) in the bottom of the 5th. Eau Claire will host the La Crosse Loggers at 6:35 p.m. on Wednesday and the Chinooks will host the defending champion Battle Creek Bombers at 6:35 p.m. 

Willmar 7, Rochester 1 

The Stingers were led at the plate by shortstop Hunter Dozier (Stephen F. Austin). Dozier went 2-for-3 with two RBI and one run scored. Willmar will host the Waterloo Bucks on Wednesday with the first pitch scheduled for 7:05 p.m. The Honkers travel to Duluth to face the Huskies at 7:05 p.m..

Battle Creek 2, Green Bay 1 (11 innings)

These two teams went to extra innings for the second night in a row. Battle Creek won the game thanks to the hustle of Turner Gill (Portland). Gill beat out a ground ball in the bottom of the 11th to score Chris McCoy (Kellog Community College). The Bombers will travel to the expansion Lakeshore Chinooks new ballpark for a 6:35 p.m. start on Wednesday, while the Bullfrogs will host Madison at 7:05 p.m.
