ROCHESTER, Minn. (June 30, 2012) – Two pitchers carried no-hitters late into their respective games and the trend of walking-off in the league continued in Saturday’s action.
The Mankato MoonDogs clinched the first half championship on Saturday for the fourth time in five seasons. With the clinch, Mankato also clinches a 2012 playoff berth.
Rochester 2, Thunder Bay 4
Phillip Lyons (Nicholls State) led the Border Cats with his performance at the plate. He was 2-for-4 with an RBI and a run scored. This series continues on Sunday at 1:35 p.m. ET.
St. Cloud 1, Mankato 4
Mankato was led on the mound by the starting effort of Seth Webster (Nicholls State). Webster threw 6.1 innings allowing just one run on five hits while striking out three. The MoonDogs are first half champions in the North Division for the fourth time in five years. The MoonDogs and Rox will face off again on Sunday at 6:05 p.m. in St. Cloud.
Waterloo 9, Duluth 4
Thomas Lindauer (Illinois) had a solid night at the plate for Waterloo, going 3-for-3 with two RBI and one run scored. The Huskies will host the Bucks again on Sunday at 5:05 p.m.
La Crosse 8, Madison 9
Madison scored three in the bottom of the ninth for the walk-off win. Tyler Marincov (North Florida) went 3-for-5 with four RBI and two runs scored for Madison. The Mallards will host the Eau Claire Express on Sunday at 5:05 p.m. and the Loggers will host the Bullfrogs from Green Bay at 5:05 p.m.
Wisconsin 6, Eau Claire 7
Tim Zier (San Diego State) hit a walk-off single in the bottom of the tenth to score Tyler Wampler (Indiana State) in Eau Claire’s win. The Woodchucks will travel to face the Lakeshore Chinooks on Sunday at 1:35 p.m.
Wisconsin Rapids 8, Lakeshore 10
The Chinooks were led by Ty Young (Louisville) at the plate. Young was 2-for-4 with two RBI and two runs scored. He also drew a walk and recorded his third triple of the season. The Rafters will travel to Battle Creek, Mich. to face the Bombers at 5:05 p.m. ET on Sunday.
Alexandria 2, Willmar 6
Steven Brault (Regis) was stellar on the mound for the Stingers, throwing 6.2 hitless innings before allowing one run on one hit, while striking out ten batters. The Stingers will host the Beetles again on Sunday at 6:05 p.m.
Battle Creek 4, Green Bay 3
The Bombers took the lead in the top of the eighth on Dillon Moyer’s (UC Irvine) first home run of the season. The Bombers pitching staff was then able to close out the 4-3 victory.
