ROCHESTER, Minn. (July 4, 2012) – Wednesday brought barbeques and fireworks across the country, but it also brought the end of the first half of play in the Northwoods League.
Rochester 3, Thunder Bay 4 (8 innings)
Thunder Bay was led by Omar Cotto (USC) who was 2-for-3 at the plate with an RBI and two runs scored. The game was called due to lightning. The Honkers will now travel to Duluth to start a series with the Huskies on Thursday at 7:05 p.m. The Border Cats will travel to Mankato to take on the MoonDogs at 7:05 p.m. on Thursday.
Duluth 2, St. Cloud 4
The Rox were led by Zach Hirsch (Nebraska) who threw eight innings, allowed just one earned run, walked none and struck out six. The Rox will travel to Alexandria to face the Beetles on Thursday at 7:05 p.m.
Green Bay 9, Wisconsin 5
The Bullfrogs were led by David Armendariz (Cal Poly) who was 2-for-5 at the plate with an RBI and two runs scored. Green Bay will travel to Wisconsin Rapids for a 7:05 p.m. start on Thursday while the Woodchucks will host the Battle Creek Bombers at 6:35 p.m.
Waterloo 3, Mankato 12
Nick Ratajczak (Louisville) was 2-for-5 at the plate with two RBI and two runs scored. Waterloo will host the Stingers at 6:35 p.m. on Thursday.
Lakeshore 12, Eau Claire 4
The Chinooks were led by Charlie Markson (Notre Dame) who was 5-for-6 at the plate with four RBI and two runs scored. The Chinooks will host the La Crosse Loggers on Thursday beginning at 6:35 p.m. and the Express will travel to Madison to play the Mallards at 7:05 p.m.
Madison 3, Wisconsin Rapids 9
Austin Neary (Western Carolina) led the Rafters at the plate as he went 2-for-4 with four RBI and a run scored. He also picked up his fourth home run of the season.
Willmar 12, Alexandria 6
Ben Moore (Alabama) was 2-for-4 at the plate with four RBI and two runs scored for the Beetles. He would record his fourth and fifth home runs of the season and reaches 30 RBI.
La Crosse 5, Battle Creek 3 (10 innings)
Joe Meggs (Washington) was 2-for-3 at the plate with one RBI and two runs scored for the Loggers and drew three walks from the Bombers’ pitching staff.
