Rochester, Minn (June 10th, 2013)–Monday may be the least favorite day of the week for many people, but this Monday’s Northwoods action featured plenty of excitement to ease the pain. In a double-header in Duluth, the Mankato MoonDogs were able to come out with a sweep.

In Green Bay, the Bullfrogs lost their lead in the 8th inning when the Wisconsin Woodchucks scored three times. The game remained tied going into the 10th, but this is where Kelly Norris-Jones (Illinois) ended things with a walk-off single.

In Battle Creek, the league-leading Bombers scored twice in the 7th and three times in the 8th to claim a home victory over Wisconsin Rapids.

Mankato 5, Duluth 0 (F/7, Game 1)

The MoonDogs got four runs in the first, but they only needed one to win the first game on Monday. Starting pitcher Julian Esquibel (Faulkner) pitched a complete-game shutout and allowed only five hits.

Mankato 3, Duluth 2 (F/7, Game 2)

Game two of the double header played much differently than game one. Rather than grabbing a lead right away, the MoonDogs scored a run in the top of the final inning and were able to slam the door for the win. Starter Bryan Bonnell (UNLV) pitched 5.1 solid innings and allowed only two runs.

Rochester 4, St. Cloud 3

Despite a late scare in the top of the ninth, the Honkers were able to hold on for a narrow victory over the Rox. Michael Pomeroy (Grand Canyon) launched a home run and drove in two RBI as he led the Honker offense.

Battle Creek 7, Wisconsin Rapids 5

The league-leading Bombers kept pace on Monday with a late comeback. After getting down 4-0 in the second inning, the Bombers were able to plate five runs between the 7th and 8th innings to grab the win. Joe Serrano (Arkansas) collected two hits, drove in two runs, and scored twice as he paced the Bombers on offense.

La Crosse 10, Eau Claire 7

After scoring an early run, the Express found themselves down 7-1 after five innings. Then, they scored six times in the 6th only to see that effort fail in the end. The Loggers would go on to score a run in the 7th and two in the 8th to get the win. The Logger bullpen allowed zero earned runs in four innings of work and allowed only two hits and one walk.

Green Bay 6, Wisconsin 5 (F/10)

After seeing a 5-0 lead slip away in the 8th inning, the Bullfrogs were able to walk off in the 10th on a single from Kelly Norris-Jones (Illinois). Derek Callahan (Gonzaga) pitched well in the game, allowing two runs over six innings and getting a no-decision.

Willmar 13, Alexandria 5

The Stinger offense was in the zone on Monday, and nobody can deny that Colton Bottomley (Florida Gulf Coast) was a huge reason why. The left-fielder collected three hits, four RBI, and three runs scored while hitting his first home run of the season.

Waterloo 5, Thunder Bay 2

J.T. Miller (Wabash College) made an excellent start on Monday as he went seven innings and allowed only one run on seven hits. The start was Miller’s second on the season, and he collected his second victory.

Madison 5, Lakeshore 4 (F/11)

After the Chinooks forced extras with a run in the 9th and then continued the game with a run in the 10th after Madison scored, the Mallards finally were able to win in 11 innings. Mike Reuvekamp (California) recorded three hits and an RBI in the win.
