Rochester, Minn (June 17th, 2013)–The Northwoods League continues to roll on into yet another new week of play. As time progresses, it becomes more and more clear which teams are putting themselves in a position to compete for first-half division championships.

In Mequon, the Lakeshore Chinooks continue to roll as they notched their 14th win of the season on Monday against Green Bay. Meanwhile, the Waterloo Bucks handled the Mankato MoonDogs at home to grab their 13th win.

In Rochester, the Honkers managed to continue a streak of teams scoring double-digit runs. With six runs in the bottom of the 8th, the Honkers walked away with a 12-2 victory.

Rochester 12, Alexandria 2

The Honkers accomplished a rare and rather amazing feat on Monday: every member of the original batting order recorded a run. Also amazingly, every member of the batting order reached safely at least one time via hit or walk. This translated into a bunch of runs in an offensive performance led by shortstop Carter Burgess (Sam Houston).

Lakeshore 3, Green Bay 2

Lakeshore’s early struggles seem like a distant memory as they sit at the top of the Northwoods League after Monday’s win. Starter Chris Rubio (CUI) was phenomenal as he pitched six innings and allowed only one earned run while striking out six.

Thunder Bay 11, Duluth 3

The Border Cats held a slim 3-2 lead until they exploded for eight combined runs in the 8th and 9th innings on Monday. Cory Kay (Harper College) set the tone for the offense as he went 3/3 out of the lead off spot with three runs scored and an RBI.

Waterloo 4, Mankato 2

The Bucks defended home turf on Monday behind a great outing from starter Landon Simpson (Arkansas). Simpson was able to go seven innings and allow just two runs while striking out seven hitters.

Eau Claire 5, Wisconsin 3

The Woodchucks have fallen on hard times as they took their sixth consecutive loss on Monday. Express starter Taylor Lehnert (Central Michigan) was able to limit the ‘Chucks to just one run on five hits over seven innings.

Madison 8, Battle Creek 3

The Mallards used a five-run 5th inning to take a victory out of the hands of the Battle Creek Bombers on Monday. After Hunter Devall (LSU) cruised through four innings, the Mallards were able to touch him up in the 5th. Mike Fitzgerald (Indiana State) led the Mallards with three walks and a solo home run.

Wisconsin Rapids 7, La Crosse 4

The Rafters logged all seven of their runs between the 3rd and 5th innings and cruised before allowing four runs in the 9th. John Kravetz (Illinois) pitched seven shutout innings and allowed only three hits while striking out four and picking up the victory on the road.

St. Cloud 8, Willmar 7

The Rox used a trio of crooked numbers between the 4th and 6th innings to grab a road in in Willmar on Monday. Charlie Morgan (Wake Forest) had a big night on offense as he recorded a double, two RBI, and two runs scored. He now has eight doubles and eight RBI on the season.
