Rochester, Minn (June 22nd, 2013)–Saturday’s action was defined by a massive, 16-inning marathon game between Madison and Lakeshore that has been suspended and will be completed at a later date. Much like Friday, mother nature made her presence known on Saturday as several games were impacted by weather.

In Willmar, the Stingers and the Mankato MoonDogs split a double-header with both games being extremely different. Game one turned into a pitcher’s duel, with Abe Bobb (San Francisco) outlasting Julian Esquibel (Faulkner). Game two was much more of an offensive contest.

In Waterloo, the Bucks were able to keep winning as they defeated the Thunder Bay Border Cats on Saturday night.

Willmar 2, Mankato 1 (F/7, Game 1)

The first game of Saturday’s double header was a tight match up that tested both starting pitchers. Abe Bobb (San Francisco) turned in a complete game and allowed only one run in the win while his counterpart Julian Esquibel (Faulkner) also pitched a full game, but allowed two runs in the loss.

Mankato 6, Willmar 4 (F/7, Game 2)

Game two of the double header was different in many ways, with the biggest difference being the winning team. After giving up four runs in the bottom of the 2nd, the MoonDogs were able to rally and win.

La Crosse 6, Wisconsin 3 (F/5)

The Loggers scored all six of their runs in the first two innings in this rain-shortened contest. Johnny Bekakis (Long Beach State) went 2/2 with two RBI and two runs scored in the victory. In total, the Loggers pounded out nine hits in five innings.

Wisconsin Rapids 5, Eau Claire 1

John Kravetz (Illinois) was excellent in Saturday’s win for the Rafters. The 6-4 pitcher from the Big Ten struck out seven batters over seven innings while allowing just one run. On the season, he has a 0.86 ERA as the ace of the Rafters pitching staff.

St. Cloud 9, Alexandria 3

Eric Nyquist (Mercer) was very strong before stumbling in the 7th inning in Saturday’s wins. On offense, the Rox had all but one of their original starters collect a hit and every original member of the lineup reached base safely.

Waterloo 7, Thunder Bay 1

The Waterloo Bucks used three different pitchers to combine for eight hits and one run allowed over nine innings. Tyler Peyton (Iowa Central) pitched five shutout innings and collected all six of his team’s strikeouts on the night.John Ziznewski (Long Island) collected three hits and drove in two runs in the win.

Green Bay 4, Battle Creek 3

With the game tied going into the 8th inning, the Bullfrogs were able to plate a pair in the top of the frame to take a lead that they would go on to hold. The ‘Frogs bullpen was fantastic in the win as they allowed just one hit and one run in four innings of work.

Rochester 12, Duluth 3 (F/5)

The Honkers and Huskies were forced to sit through multiple lightning delays before Saturday’s game was called early in favor of Rochester. The Honker offense exploded early on with eight runs in the bottom of the second inning to help generate a comfortable win.

Madison 3, Lakeshore 3 (Suspended, Rain, 16th Inning)

This game will be finished at a later date. See the websites of the Madison Mallards and Lakeshore Chinooks for more details.
