Rochester, Minn (August 15th, 2013)–The Madison Mallards beat the Duluth Huskies to take game one of the Summer Collegiate World Series on Thursday. With game one being the only game in the series in Madison, it was vital for the Mallards to get a win before heading off to Duluth.

Madison 10, Duluth 7

Despite putting up six runs in the bottom of the fifth inning, the Mallards still found themselves in a dog fight with the Huskies. However, the Mallards seemingly had an answer at every turn for Duluth. When the Huskies got up 4-1 through four and a half innings, the Mallards put up their big fifth inning. When the Huskies scored two in the seventh and one in the eighth, the Mallards responded with the same number of runs in each inning.

Taylore Cherry (North Carolina) made the start for Madison, and while he had some troubles he performed some damage control and kept things from getting out of control. Meanwhile, the Mallards went to work on offense behind Alex Bacon (North Florida). Bacon hit his second home run in as many days as he drove in three runs.

The Mallards were able to get to Parker Trewin (North Dakota State) who made the start for Duluth. Trewin gave up seven runs on ten hits as he got smacked around by the Mallards.
